It’s the new year and with that comes people making lots of goals for the new year to come. Most write a list of things they want to achieve that year (like start working out & saving more money), then the paper is placed in the back of the drawer and forgotten about. This is the problem with making these lists. I am also guilty of making a list of goals and then forgetting about it. This year I decided that I would make a vision board. Keep reading for a step by step guide on how to create a digital vision board.

Benefits of a Vision Board
A vision board is so much better then a list when trying to achieve goals and life changes. Vision boards (especially digital ones as we spend so much time online) provide you with a daily visual reminder of your dreams and goals. The reason that vision boards work so great is because you visually see them every day. Visualization is one of the most popular and effective mind workouts that you can do. Visualization is also an important step in manifestation. It is like your own visual Pinterest board and it’s also a lot of fun to make. Keep reading to see how to create a digital vision board.
Simply put, a vision board is a physical collection of items such as pictures, magazine clippings, words, and quotes that visually affirm your goals and dreams. It works because what you focus on expands! Back in the day a vision board consisted of photos cut out of a magazine or two and glued onto a board (this is still a fine way to do a vision board if you prefer a physical copy, and you can also print photos from Pinterest too). But I prefer a digital vision board it has so many advantages! First you can have access to thousands of images online and not have to worry about printing them, you can also have your vision board with you at all times (if it’s a background on your phone or computer). Having easy access to your vision board is so important because we want to look at it daily as a reminder of our dreams and goals.
- Vision boards make you think about what you really want
- Vision boards can help to motivate you
- Vision boards provide you with a daily visual reminder of your goals and dreams
- Vision boards are fun to create
How to Create a Digital Vision Board
Step 1
Create a Pinterest board specifically for your vision board (you can keep it a secret board if you like). This is the fun part, you get to pin images and quotes that are going to motivate and inspire you. Wanting to travel more, pin photos of places you want to visit. Want to eat heathy and get fit pin photos of healthy delicious food and workout inspiration. I would try to get 30-50 pins for your vision board (also if you want your board to look aesthetic go for photos with a similar colour pallet).
Step 2
Get a free Canva account. This is where you are going to create your board. You are going to go to you Pinterest board and save all the images you want to use onto your computer. Once you have those images saved you will upload them into Canva. Pick a size for you vision board- if you want to have your vision board as your desk top background (which is what I did, I will see it every time I am on my computer) use 1920×1080 or you could also do it as your phone lock screen or wallpaper. Once you have picked a size you will hit create a design in Canva (you can upload your saved Pinterest photos onto Canva at this stage as well). Now start adding all your photos you can resize them to fit the design you have in mind. I overlapped my photos so there is no white space. When you are happy with you design download it to your phone and computer.
Step 3
Upload the vision board to your phone or computer and set it as your background!
Vision Boards & Manifestation
Vision boards and manifestation go hand in hand they are two of the most powerful tools in helping you reach your goals. Your vision board is a visualization of everything you want to be, do, and have in the future. A vision board helps you with your manifestation the whole point is to inspire and motivate you to work towards your goals. When you create a vision board and place it in a space where you see it often, you essentially end up doing short visualization exercises throughout the day. Wether you believe it or not visualization and manifestation actually works Olympic athletes and business tycoons have been using these methods for decades. Psychologists reported that the brain patterns activated when a weightlifter lifts heavy weights are also similarly activated when the lifter just imagined (visualized) lifting weights.
Your vision board should focus mainly on how you want to feel (sure include the material things you want too) but the more your board focuses on how you want to feel the more it will come to life. For example if you want to put money on your vision board focus on why you want this and how getting it will make you fee. Most people want more money because they will have freedom and time think what does this “freedom” look like to you, maybe its traveling the world or becoming your own boss and quitting that job that you hate. Whatever the goal is focus on how achieving it will make you feel.
What is Manifesting
Manifesting is the practice of thinking aspirational thoughts with the ultimate goal of making these thoughts a reality, this technique is based on the Law of Attraction. In the New Thought spiritual movement, the Law of Attraction is a pseudoscience based on the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. The whole motto of manifesting is if you think it- it will come true. Now like I mentioned this is not a new concept or technique you have probably heard of the best selling book The Secret, which has sold over 30 million copies centres on these very techniques. Of course you do have to take proactive steps towards your goals in addition to manifesting them. Make sure you also let go of any limiting beliefs, we are our own worst enemies and critics sometimes and the power of the mind is undeniable, so if you are thinking in the back of your mind that you won’t be able to achieve your goal these toxic self sabotaging thoughts can hinder you achieving your goals.
