Beauty Trend : Euphoria Makeup Looks

Since 2019 we have been glued to the small screen and even more so with the pandemic. I remember when someone told me about Euphoria and how I just had to watch it, so of course I watched the first episode and was hooked. This show has a cult following especially with gen Z but I must admit that I love it too. From the chic fashions to the makeup everyone is trying to emulate Euphorias style. In today’s post we are focusing on the beauty trend: Euphoria makeup looks.

Now if you have yet to see the show it’s time! The long awaited season 2 just started and you can watch it on HBO or Crave. “Euphoria” follows the troubled life of 17-year-old Rue, a drug addict fresh from rehab with no plans to stay clean. The series tackles the teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden day-to-day life with empathy and candor. I honestly can’t remember a TV series where the makeup looks were talked about as much as they are with Euphoria. There is such a wide rang of makeup looks which we are going to cover! Being a professional makeup artist I am living for all of these cool trends and while some of them are not totally wearable for everyday that has not stopped us swooning over them. The cast and makeup artists of Euphoria serves up endless inspo for the coolest makeup looks we have seen in a long time. From the bare faced Rue to Maddie’s killer cat liner we have rounded up some of our favourite looks from the series so far. So break out the glitter and rhinestones and let’s go.

Euphoria Makeup Essentials

  • Black Liner: of course no Euphoria makeup look is complete without a killer liquid black liner.
  • Natural Dewy Foundation: nothing to full coverage just something to even out your skin tone think a BB or CC cream.
  • Rhinestones: this may be one of the most iconic and recognizable makeup essentials of Euphoria and we are loving it. While it’s not an everyday look it’s so fun to rock
  • A great lip (either a lipstick or gloss): each character has their own looks Maddy tends to go with more dark lipsticks and over lines a bit more.
  • Brow Gel: most of the makeup looks in the show are not something that can be classified as natural but most of the characters brows are on the natural side just swipe some brow gel and you are good to go!
  • Colourful Eyeshadow: now I am totally a neutrals girl but a great Euphoria look requires some cool colourful eyeshadow.

Beauty Trend: Euphoria Makeup Looks

Maddy

All hail the rhinestone queen. She has single handedly made rhinestone trendy again. Not to mention her killer cat eye liner. Maddy is honestly my favourite character in the series I love her take no crap attitude and I feel like her makeup reflects her personality. Lead makeup artist Doniella Davy has said in season 2 Maddy is one of the only cast members with a full face of makeup, while she took a more natural look for the other cast members skin opting out of full coverage foundation. Doniella has said “A Maddy wing is always THE sharpest wing. Sharp like a knife to cut through whatever stands in her way: Ex boyfriends, bathroom doors, etc 🔪💔”.

Cassie

Season 2 looks like its Cassie’s time to shine (as the villain of course). The opening episode in season 2 feature Cassie’s dainty rhinestone wing liner that will be emulated for months to come. From betraying Maddy and causing lots of problems she always finds a way to play the innocent victim- but we are not buying it. Her makeup definitely gives off more innocent and demure vibes vs Maddy, this is a direct juxtaposition of the two characters personalities and I love how their makeup and wardrobes are a direct reflection of that. If you look at the photo below you can actually see some redness and veins because the foundation is almost non existent.

Lexi

We are loving her berry lip and the subtle glitter under her eye. We are secretly hoping her and Fez become a thing. Her makeup looks are a lot more subtle than some of the other female charters and therefore may actually be a bit more wearable for everyday life. While we love the edgy rhinestone looks that a lot of the characters rock, lets be honest it’s not an everyday type of look.

Kat

She kicked off the season with this cool colourful look. To be honest I’m not a huge fan of her character but I did like how she came out of her shell and started to have more confidence in herself. As she became more confident her makeup and outfits became bolder!

HBO

Jules

A new cool take on liner. While she is a main character in Rue’s life I kinda think she is detrimental as Rue said she just loves to be loved. Her makeup ranges from more minimal looks to interesting liners but again she doesn’t have a full base of makeup on in most episodes. That is one thing that I love about the series, the base makeup is minimal and natural enough that in some scenes you can see blemishes and imperfect skin.

Rue

We can’t forget Euphoria’s lead but in the opening of season two she doesn’t have much makeup on so we are throwing it back to one of our favourite looks. Most of the time she is high on drugs and looking pretty rough. But she did have that iconic look with the glitter under her eyes almost looking like tears.

One thing is for sure is Euphoria’s makeup feels fresh and new, the lead makeup artist consistently thinks outside the box and continues to serve up some killer looks. Check out our other beauty posts here!
